Fonts and custom shaders in downloaded AssetBundle not working

We have a bunch of scenes which use different textures, fonts and shaders. Each scene is included in a downloadable assetbundle which is built for Android and iOS. We mark the scene asset with the desired assetbundle name and build our assetbundles and we expect all referenced assets to be included in the assetbundle. When we run the game on Android and try to download an assetbundle and load the scene in it, the textures work, but fonts and custom shaders do not work. The text is just white squares and the quads with custom shaders are grey. I have been googling for an hour or so but unable to find any answers, just a few questions and no solutions. Does anyone have a workaround for fonts and shaders not being included or loaded from assetbundles? There are no errors or warnings in the assetbundle build log, and no runtime error from the missing fonts, but the missing shader gives the same error as in this unresolved beta issue: https://forum.unity3d.com/threads/failed-to-load-gpuprogram-from-binary-shader-data.406037/
